Our Packaging: Did You Know?

Ever wonder why so many of our delicious organic and all-natural soups, broths, bisques and stocks come in a box? Or why we introduced hearty soups in a can? The answer is all about the benefits to you…and our environment.
Approximately 75% of our product is packaged in aseptic cartons manufactured by Tetra Pak, a leader in sustainable development and aseptic technology…and a company that shares our desire to help promote A Healthy Way of Life™, and a healthy environment. And, as you would expect, our canning process is driven by like values, with quality and social responsibility at the forefront.
Benefits to You
Protects Food Quality:
- Our innovative aseptic carton package preserves the freshness and homemade taste of our soups for up to 12 months, literally locking in the nutrients and flavor by sealing out light and air. Plus, the flash heating and cooling process effectively retains our soup’s nutritional value, color and even texture.
- Our canning technology allows us to lock in nutrients until you’re ready to pop the top and enjoy. Also, in some cases, as with tomatoes and the antioxidant lycopene, the canning process actually enhances their nutritive value versus the raw form!
Superior Flavor:
- Aseptic technology allows for a more delicate cooking process, so that we can capture and preserve the real, garden-fresh taste you love.
- Seemingly ordinary on the outside, our cans are designed to preserve the extraordinarily fresh flavors found inside.
Preservative-Free: The canning and aseptic packaging processes do not require artificial preservatives.
Shelf Stable:
- Unopened aseptically packaged products can remain unrefrigerated for up to 12 months. Only the unused portion requires refrigeration (up to 7 days).
- Our cans keep our natural and organic ready-made soups just as fresh as when they were originally.
Easy Storage: Whether you choose our soups in the carton or the can, they’re both easy to store and stack.
Convenient:
- Our carton’s brick shape is space-efficient, plus our 32oz family-size package has an easy-pour feature and a convenient resealable cap.
- Offering on-the-go convenience, our canned soups feature an easy-open “pop top” so you can enjoy them anytime, anywhere.
Safe:
- The aseptic manufacturing process ensures that both the food and the packaging are free of harmful bacteria. While our aseptic cartons are made of 70% paper, 23% polyethylene and 7% aluminum, the aluminum is completely covered by 2 layers of FDA-approved, food-grade polyethylene, so the food and the aluminum never come in contact.
- Our team of canning experts follows a rigorous quality assurance program to ensure that Imagine soups are 100% safe and produced in a technologically modern, sanitary environment.
Benefits to our Environment
Minimal Packaging:
- Our aseptic carton is environmentally friendly from the start, using less material than conventional packaging; generally 96% product to 4% packaging, by weight.
- As technology advances, our cans become more and more eco-friendly. Steel cans contain approximately 33% total recycled content…and the average thickness has decreased by about 30% over the past 25 years.
Energy-Efficient:
- Our aseptic package requires less energy than comparable packages to manufacture, fill, ship and store.
- Imagine soup cans require about half the energy to produce as aluminum cans, and they don’t consume additional energy when you store them, like frozen or refrigerated foods.
Recyclable:
- Nearly 11 million households now recycle aseptic cartons at curbside. To learn more, contact your local recycling center or the Aseptic Packaging Council.
- Our steel cans are 100% recyclable, and each bears the “Recyclable Steel” logo as a reminder of this fact. Learn about recycling steel and help protect our environment – visit http://www.cansmart.org/
